Markelloquium
Fri Jan 24 2025 2:00PM – 5:00PM
Event Description:
The Markelloquium is a criminal law colloquium that meets several times a semester in various law schools in NYC to workshop papers in the criminal law field. Participants are criminal law professors from all over the country, as well as fellows and other academic in adjacent disciplines. Each meeting is 3 hours long and attended by roughly 15-20 people in person (people also join through Zoom) and two papers are workshopped at each meeting. The markelloquium has been going on for several years and has been hosted by many New York law schools, including NYU, Columbia, NYLS, Brooklyn, and Cardozo. It has not yet been hosted at St. John's, and as I'm now on the faculty there and am a co-convener of the. markelloquium, I am making the request. The request is for the Manhattan space (rather than our law school space in Queens) because the attendees come from all over the New York metro region and many people travel by public transit, making the Manhattan space much more convenient. In terms of what type of room would be needed-- a room with enough space for 20-25 people (seminar style classroom, for example) with the capacity of adding Zoom attendees would be ideal. Ordinarily, schools also provide light snacks and beverages (coffee, water, sodas), but we can also provide that..
